Hi! I just moved to Palo Alto with my husband. We are very social, go-out-and-grab-a-drink kind of people and would love some suggestions on places to go. Thanks!

we are way out in the east bay, so no suggestions. but welcome
1I lived on the Peninsula (San Mateo) years ago and I hear it's changed quite a bit, so I can only remember a couple of places. I know a lot more places to go in SF or the East Bay. However, one place that was kind of fun to drop in for a drink and appetizer (and I believe they even have a cigar lounge) is La Bodeguita del Medio on California Avenue in Palo Alto. Whenever I was in the Palo Alto area, my friends and I would usually find something to do on University Avenue. There are lots of shops and restaurants there. Also, Castro Street in Mountain View is kind of fun to walk around and there are lots of decent ethnic restaurants over there. If your husband is a beer drinker, the Tied House on Villa Street in Mountain View has good microbrews. Also, if you're close to 280, Woodside Road in Woodside has a cool little area of cafes and restaurants. The area is right off Canada Road, by 280 if I recall correctly. It's really beautiful up there and you can find some good eats. I've also heard that Menlo Park has become very hip and has lots of new restaurants there. I haven't been there in a very long time and can only recall Kepler's Books (great independent bookstore!) and Cafe Borrone, which is right next to it (try the yummy espresso milkshake!). You'll want to confirm that all of these places still exist since it's been a long time since I've been over there, but hopefully some of that will get you started. Also, check www.yelp.com for recommendations too. Good luck and welcome to the beautiful Bay Area!
2HI and welcome! I'm from SF so I don't know places in Palo Alto, but I'd be happy to recommend lots of good spots if you ever make the trip down to the city!
