Hey all you Sugar San Franciscans! I have been living in the area for two months, and now that a long weekend is around the corner, I'm really looking to branch out and do some sight-seeing. I feel like I'm in between being a tourist and a local. I'm sort of beyond seeing Fisherman's Wharf and Union Square, and I live in Cathedral Hill (it's close to Nob Hill, Cow Hollow and Pacific Heights).
There are still places I haven't seen yet, and I was looking to see if any of you have the scoop on certain places I should explore now that I have some down time! I hope everyone has a restful and happy Thanksgiving and I look forward to any suggestions! Cheers!

Oh funny, I just moved to Nob Hill a month and a half ago. Have you been to Golden Gate Park yet? I know, it's the obvious suggestion, but it's a really nice place if you have the time to wander. Golden Gate and then lunch in the Haight is worth half a day. I'd also suggest taking Bart out to Berkeley. Super-easy to get to and the bookstores and coffee shops are great. I've spent a bit of time in the Mission, but mostly at bars and restaurants- great fun, but I have no idea what it's like during the day.
1Have you been to North Beach, yet?. There's a bunch of cafes & shops on/ around Columbus Ave. And, there's City Lights Bookstore, which is well-known to locals, which you should check out if you haven't already.
And, I love museums so, if you're into that, I would recommend the MoMA, the de Young (which has a tower that you can go and see panoramic views of the city & the bay), the Legion of Honor (which is so gorgeous!), and the Asian Art Museum.
And if you want to see more stunning city views, Coit Tower is near North Beach. I've only been there once, but I remember the views!
2Thanks you guys! Haven't been to Golden Gate Park yet, but I should really go to some parks, beaches and museums! And I loooove North Beach so I'm always looking for a reason to head there
I've been to the Mission twice, and it has a great Mexican restaruant which I love.
I haven't done Coit Tower or the Haight yet, but those are great ideas!
3Golden Gate Park- Go walk around the Arboretum (free!) and have lunch in one of the restaurants around 9th and Irving – Park Chow is a local favorite. There’s also the DeYoung Museum and the Conservatory of Flowers there.
Chrissy Field and the Embarcadero offer some great Bay views.
The Marina has cute shops on Union St and Chestnut St.
Ocean Beach has the Cliff House Restaurant and the Beach Chalet, you can walk along the beach and Sutro Park. The west end of GG park is nearby and so is the Zoo.
Have fun exploring and welcome to San Francisco.
4Heyyy I grew up right in North Beach so I'm definitely biased about that
And a lot
of other things I'd suggest are taken, too, like seeing the museums, hanging out in the Haight (my new hood!), and visiting Golden Gate Park. As for the Hight, some highlights are Crossroads
Trading Company, Ameoba Records, The People's Cafe, Wasteland, Piedmont, Ambiance, and Best of Thai Noodle. I'd recommend checking out the Ferry Building on Saturday mornings for a farmer's
market and a good brunch. But the BETTER farmer's market is on Alemany
My favorite
beach is Baker Beach, because it's more secluded and has safer turf, and stunning views of the bridge.
And Mamafog--Park Chow is one of my favorite restaurants, too! I always get their pumpkin ice cream with real melted caramel sauce for dessert
5Wow, great ideas! Park Chow, Golden Gate Park, and the Haight are all on my 'hit list!' Oh yeah, I love Union St. too! And did you know that Apple opened a new store on Chestnut Street? I should pop over there too!
6Urban Bohemian, I checked the new Apple store out on its opening day and it was great (A lot less insane than the downtown one, even on Black Friday and its first day)!
7Wow lucky you! On Black Friday I was at the downtown one for an appointment with the Genius Bar. I nearly got plowed over by a plethora of earbud-wearers. So that was ended my holiday shopping experience at the Downtown Apple store! I'll bet there were some special sales at the new one being its grand opening!
8I second Mamafog's suggestion. Go to the Inner Sunset — it's got lots of cute shops and sushi joints, and it's right at Golden Gate Park. (And, ahem, a certain Bella is known to stalk the neighborhood's comic book shop for the new Buffy comic...) I'd also head to Cole Valley, which has a vaguely French feel to it. Oh, and for a swanky date, go to the Cliff House at sunset. It's a little corny and touristy, but the view is beautiful.
9Mmmm....more good tips! Cole Valley sounds so nice!
